AVM Brent Espeland, AM, President of the Royal Australian Air Force Association, was farewelled with full military honours on Tuesday 10 October at St Peter’s Anglican Cathedral in North Adelaide, attended by family, friends and many Service colleagues.

AVM Brent Espeland AM

Brent was the National President of the Air Force Association among many other appointments he held on various boards and committees of charitable institutions and similar organisations. He was a champion of veterans’ benefits and a loyal and long serving officer in the Royal Australian Air Force.

The full military service was conducted by The Reverend Yogananda Juste-Constant, CHAP (SQNLDR), 24 SQN, RAAF Base Edinburgh, with tributes from AVM Espeland’s son Brady and daughter-in-law, Jane, and from AIRCDRE Christopher ‘Noddy’ Sawade, CSC, Mr Peter Colliver (National Secretary of the Air Force Association) and Mr Bob Graham. Scripture readings were given by family and former RAAF colleagues and a poem read by AVM Espeland’s granddaughter, Lara.

“Brent was a man who believed there were better days ahead. His graciousness, smile, reassuring tone, and sense of humour were all qualities that helped him wear so effortlessly the burdens of expectation throughout his life and career.” - ANZAC Centenary SA website (AVM Brent Espeland obituary)

GPCAPT (Ret’d) Carl Schiller, OAM CSM, President, Air Force Association (Victoria): “Brent was often described as a true gentleman, and an inspiring and charismatic leader who went about his business in a quiet and achieving style. He was a man you could not fail to admire.”
